Aisha Buhari Takes Her Pet Project To Ogun State

 

The pet project of the wife of the President Mohammadu Buhari berth in Ogun State, as no fewer than 2,500 persons on Thursday, benefited from the free health screening initiative of Hajia Aishat Buhari, which was flagged off in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

The health initiative with the theme, ‘Future Assured’, offered free health screening such as, Body Mass Index, (BMI), eye test, blood sugar level test as well as high blood pressure test.

Hajia Buhari explained that the programme is meant to bring healthcare closer to the young and old Nigerians, especially those in the hard-to-reach areas of the country.

Hajia Buhari, who was represented by Dr. Abdulrahaman Kamal, disclosed that similar health programmes going on in some other states of the country are all “part of efforts towards complementing the Federal Government’s intention in providing improved health care services to the citizens of the country.”

She, however, noted that the initiative will contribute to the realisation of the World Health organisation (WHO) Vision 2020 global initiative, which aims at eliminating major causes of all preventable and treatable blindness.

She said “This exercise is not about how many people are in need of this service, but it is about how many people will benefit from this exercise and know that this is reminder on the importance of regular medical checkups.

“Let me also urge the people of Ogun State to take advantage of this exercise as the beginning of an attempt to improve their health and health seeking behaviour.”

In his remark, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, pledged that his administration will continue with its free healthcare for pregnant women and children between age 0 and 5 as well as the aged from 70 years and above.

Amosun, who said that there was no way healthcare can be completely free, however, said his administration will continue to espouse various initiatives aimed assisting the people to have access to qualitative healthcare delivery.

He charged well-meaning individuals to support the health screening initiative of Hajia Buhari and assured the wife of the president of the support of the state government to ensure the success of the initiative.

Also Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of the Ogun state governor, noted that “health challenge remained a major challenge to government and individuals”, adding “no nation can achieve much development without making the health needs of its citizens priority.”

Mrs. Amosun added that “health screening interventions are designed to identify diseases in people with the hope of reducing mortality,” and urged the people to take advantage of the programme to address their health issues.
