The police in Lagos have called on youths to embrace policing as career profession even as it prepares for the police week.
The call was made by Mrs Folasade Adams, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, while briefing newsmen of activities for this year Police Week Celebration.
Adams, who is also the Chairperson of the planning committee, said younger Nigerians must know that the police was their friend, contrary to the belief by some people.
“This year police week celebration is targeted at the school children. They must know that there is no gain in vices. They should avoid cultism and other crimes.
“We want to use this celebration to sell the police to the young ones. They should know that there is profession in the police force.
“Nigerians should know that police is their friend. It is only when they know this, they can encourage their children to enlist into the force as a profession,’’ Adams said.
She noted that the theme for the year celebration: “Police Is Your Friend,’’ was an effort to bring members of the public close to the force.
According to her, the police cannot work effectively without assistant by members of the public by way of information and other assistance.
Adams said the celebration, which includes jum’at service on Friday and church service on Sunday at Alausa, road walk and enlightenment campaign on Tuesday.
She said the grand finale would be on Wednesday with a career talk on the theme for some selected school students.
Adams said later in same day, there would a gala night, where awards would be given to some individuals, organizations and police officers.
