Police Sad Over The Death Of Two Officers In Auto Accident Over IGP’s Visit

The Delta State Police Command is regretting the visit of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase’s last week to the state owing to the calamity it has brought.

Findings have revealed two policemen, a top officer and the other; a junior officer lost their lives in a fatal motor accident when they were going back to their division immediately the IGP left Asaba to Abuja.

They were said to have lost their lives when the police vehicle in which they were traveling back somersaulted severally owing to burst tyre and died instantly.

The command is said to be covering the death as a result of the condemnation the general would give to the loss of lives of the gallant officers who traveled that far from their base to Asaba because of the IGP’s visit.

Independent Newspapers source at the police headquarters who pleaded not to be mentioned confirmed the death, but pleaded that the command is keeping it to its chest because it has never happened in the command.

She further said it would send a bad signal to the IGP while the general public would not accept the negligence from the Police Headquarters who could not provide simple accommodation for the officers for that day.

The official visit to the command, where the IGP had implored police officers particularly the rank and file to be proud of their job to elicit appreciation from the public however turned immediately to sorrow when the news got to the command headquarters in Asaba .

What was said to have pained the other officers was that the loss has further reduced their manpower as the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman had enumerated the challenges facing the command to include shortage of manpower and inadequate logistics.

Even if he had thanked the Inspector General for the visit, saying that the visit would motivate the command to perform better, the encouragement by the IGP that as an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, they must be able to walk with swagger, carry themselves with dignity to earn appreciation from members of the public and looking radiant has been defeated.

All attempt to get the identity of the dead police officers has not been successful as the public relation department of the command has not been forthcoming with the facts.
