Edo State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society is collaborating with the Nigerian security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to bring to fruition its articulated First Aid and Disaster Relief Management programme.
The chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State Branch, Mr. Festus Alenkhe disclosed this is Benin City when he paid an advocacy visit to the state commandant of the NSCDC Mr. Walter Akubuiroh
Mr. Alenkhe said, the Nigeria Red Cross Society’s effective First Aid management during any disaster helps in keeping the life of any casualty before the arrival of medical doctor or other health personnel.
He stated that, Red Cross plays a vital role in time of peace and war, adding that, Red Cross activities are protected with international humanitarian law.
According to him, the NSCDC is a grass root organisation that has been collaborating with other security agencies in its move to keep the country safe, while commending NSCDC for its activities so far.
In his remarks, the state commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Walter Akubuiroh described the Red Cross as a foremost international humanitarian organisation that is committed to societal development.
Mr. Akubuiroh urged the leadership of the Red Cross Society in the state to embark on First Aid and emergency response team on highway in the state.
He called on the Red Cross society in the state to extend its first Aid training programme to men and officers of the corps in order for them to have basic first aid knowledge.
Similarly, Junior Red Cross members called (JRC) from Kleros Montessori House, G.R.A., Benin City visited the state headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in G.R.A, Benin City.
The Junior Red Cross members, numbering over 100 were advised by the state Red Cross Chairman, to always obey their parent and keep the rules of Red Cross.
Mr. Alenkhe stressed the need for school heads to encourage their pupils and student to join the red cross society.
