LASPOTECH Launches N5bn Endowment Fund

Lagos State Polytechnics (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu as part of event lined up for the 24th convocation ceremony will be launching a N5billion endowment funds.

The polytechnic will also be conferring the polytechnic fellowship award on Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Kabiru Shotobi the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and Engineer Ademola Aladekomo, former Group Managing Director of Chams Plc.

Addressing the media at the polytechnics on Thursday, Dr. Samuel Sogunro, Rector of the institution, explained that the endowment fund is to facilitate the actualization of the polytechnic’s vision of excellence.

He said the institution has attained an enviable ranking as one of the five topmost polytechnics in Nigeria and that it is the desire of the polytechnic to ensure that the institution becomes a renowned global tertiary institution.

Expected to be part of the launching of the endowment fund according to him is; Sir Adebutu Keshinton, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leader of the All Progressive Congress, Aliko Dangote, among other well meaning Nigerians.

Sogunro further hinted that the funds to be raised will be committed to infrastructural development and research projects.

Speaking on the activities lined up for the convocation ceremony which is tagged ‘Poised for a brighter future’, Sogunro said the convocation ceremony will hold on Thursday April 7, where a total number of 8,519 students from the full time and part time will be graduating.

Giving a breakdown of performance of students, he stated that 263 graduated with distinction, 1317 with upper credit, 5629 with lower credit while 1310 students graduated with pass.

He said the convocation lecture titled ‘Funding challenge in tertiary institution: the way forward’ will hold on Tuesday April 6 at the School of Agriculture auditorium and will be delivered by Professor Abubakar Momoh, Director General, The Electoral Institute (TEI), Abuja.
