Shittu Sacks Post-Master General Over Stamp Duty
The Minister of Communication, Mr. Adebayor Shittu has weighed the big stick, sacking the Post Master-General of the Federation over rift on who collects stamp duty.
The acting Postmaster General of the Federation, Mr. Enoch Ogun, had organised interview for companies that expressed interest in the collection of stamp duty for government to the disapproval of the minister.
Consequently, the minister, summoned the Deputy Postmaster General to a meeting presided over by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Sonny Echeno.
Mr Ogun was informed the minister had approved his retirement and consequently directed that he should hand over to the most senior officer in the organisation said to be Dr. Richard Balami.
Ogun’s retirement was due on December 31st, 2015, but for lack of a qualified candidate, he was pleaded upon to remain in office until a substantive Post Master-General was appointed.
In the ministry’s bid to appoint a substantive PMG, Ogun applied because going by the terms of reference he was qualified.
Some staff expressed reservations saying he was seen as a threat as some interested parties have been lobbying for the job hence the sack.
