14 Nigerians Qualify Rio Paralympics

Fourteen Nigerians have qualified for the para-athletics event of the upcoming Paralympic Games, scheduled for September in Rio de Janeiro.

The male qualifiers are, Suwaibidu Galadima (T47), Friday Aigbangbe, Olusegun Rotawo (T11), Saidi Adedeji (T47), Taiwo Suleiman (T12) and Emeka Kiyem (F40).

The females are Lauritta Onye (F40), Njideka Iyiazi (F58), Unyime Uwak (T46), Olajumoke Olajide (T53), Hannah Babalola (T54), Flora Ugwunwa (F54), Chioma Uwaoma (T38) and Lovina Onyegbule (T11).

Frank Thorpe, the President, Para-athletics Federation of Nigeria (PFN), who said this on Monday in Lagos, expressed happiness at the qualification.

He asked the Sports Ministry to commence immediate preparation by inviting athletes to camp soon. He said that training together would boost athletes’ preparation.

He said that he was optimistic that other athletes would also qualify through the Grand Prix, scheduled for between May and June.
