NYSC Debunks 25% Reduction In Corps Members’ Allowance

Both serving and intending corps members can now heave a sigh of relief following assurances by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that there is no plan to reduce their monthly allowance by 25 percent.

There have been wide speculations in the social media about a purported reduction in corps members’ allowance by 25 percent, a rumour that had brought tension among serving corps members and intending ones.

The corps members, particularly those who are about to be mobilized in the next couple of weeks, were already contemplating shifting their service year until when the ”economy improves”.

“We are even complaining that the current allowance is no longer enough in view of the present economic condition, and rather than increasing it, they are talking of reduction”, an intending corps member was quoted as saying.

A statement issued by the management on Tuesday, which described the report as false, mischievous and a figment of the writer’s imagination, laid to rest all such plans and panic.

The statement urged the corps members and members of the public to disregard the rumour and remain focused as they continue the service to their fatherland.
