Police Smash Notorious Kidnap Gangs In Enugu

Men of Enugu State Police Command have smashed two notorious kidnap gangs terrorizing residents of Enugu, the capital city and other parts of the State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ekechukwu Nwodibo made this disclosure during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Enugu.

Nwodibo disclosed that the first syndicate led by one Etim Amos of Abiakpo Ibo Road, Ikot Ekpene, was behind the kidnapping of one Barrister John Abugu at G.R.A.Enugu, Mrs. Jane Ekweremadu at Agric Bank Junction, Independence Layout Enugu and Mr. Brooks Okwara at the same area.

The State police boss further disclosed that the same gang was responsible for the kidnap of Mrs. Sandra Onu, along with her Honda CRV car with registration number Lagos JJJ447CL, at New Haven area of Enugu.

Narrating how the gang was smashed, Nwodibo said the State Police Command in a carefully planned operation, ambushed the gang at gunpoint along Itu-Calabar road, Uyo, during which the hoodlums tried to escape.

“The gang leader, Etim Amos who had been posing as a soldier and had an army cap on the dashboard of any car he used to deceive people, was gunned down alongside another member of the gang, one Otunre Nse.

“The Honda CRV belonging to Mrs. Sandra Onu with which she was abducted was recovered from them. Also recovered were a gun, the handsets of the victims and fake army ID card bearing Cpl.Etim Henry Amos” Nwodibo said.

He said the second gang smashed was made up of Nonso Onyebuchi of Obeagu Awgu who was the leader of the gang, Collins Chime of Obinagu Udi, a relation of their victim and Chukwudi Azemene of Umuoduma Aba, Abia State.

Nwodibo said they had kidnapped one Elder Chime Edwin, a UK returnee of Obinagu Udi on April 2, at his house in Udi and whisked him off in a Volkswagen Audi car with registration number. DWK929 PP which they had earlier robbed from the owner in Umunede, Delta State.


The police said the car has also been recovered, while all the suspects have confessed to the crime.

“Enugu State would continue to be the grave of all criminals as you have always seen. We will continue to prevent crime and if any criminal manages to succeed, we will be swift, decisive and zealous in hunting him down” he said.
