Ganiu Otenigbagbe, a veteran coach with the Lagos State Basketball Association, on Friday said that only good preparation could help Nigeria’s D’Tigress qualify for the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Otenigbagbe said in Lagos that D’Tigress stood good chance of qualifying for the Olympics but certain cautions needed to be taken in their preparation.
According to him, adequate preparation must be undertaken by the team, saying that failure to adequately prepare had been the bane of past misses.
Abimbola Faniran, a basketball stakeholder said that the competition would be a tough one but with hard work, the D’Tigress would make the Olympics.
He said he was happy with the plans put in place by the federation, but that two months minimum was needed to adequately prepare.
“But the team still stand a chance to make it but it is going to be tough and they must be at their best in terms of performance and determination to make it,’’ Faniran said.
Nigeria is grouped along Belarus and South Korea in Group C, while Africa’s other representative, Cameroon, is in Group B with Argentina and Turkey.
