Niger state may prune down its contingent to the forth-coming National Sports Festival (NSF) due tro lack of funds.
Well to do individuals and co-operate organisations have been called upon to come to the aid of the government in its efforts at engaging youths in different sports.
Alhaji Mamman Musa, Niger state commissioner for Sports development, said this when Alhaji Liman Suleiman, the Niger State Squash Association (NSSA) chairman, led other executive members of the association on a courtesy visit.
The commissioner observed that, Squash being a game of class and loved mostly by the elites, has become necessary for members of the association to look beyond the current administration for support to fund its activities.
Although Squash is one of the few sports dear to the government, Alhaji Mamman said that because the state government was facing challenges of lean resources, it can no longer provide 100 percent funding for the different sports in the state.
