Man Remanded In Kirikiri Over Alleged Defilement

Essien Happiness, a 31-year-old man, alleged to have raped his eight-year-old step daughter was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, remanded the accused in Kirikiri Prison, and adjourned the case till May 25 for Directorate of Public Prosecution’s legal advice.

Happiness, a sales engineer, who lives at 7 Olorunwa Street, Shasha, Egbeda, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of defilement.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the offence was committed on April 12 at the accused residence.

He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused plea was not taken.
