The Abia State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defencer Corps says it has discovered two illegal oil depots in Obiakpor Obuzor in Ukwa West L.G.A. of the State.
The feat recorded by the NSCDC was contained in a release issued by the Public Relations Officer for the State Command, Uchenwa Oliver (DSC) and made available to The Independent in Aba.
According to the release, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Dr Benito Eze disclosed this while parading six suspected pipeline vandals when he led his men on an operation within the Ukwa West rich oil area, which led to the arrest and discovery the illegal oil depot.
He decried the activities of pipeline vandals within the area, however warned those who engage in such economic sabotage to desist from oil bunkering, vandalization of petroleum pipeline and other critical national assets located around their domain.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Benito Eze has warned illegal miners in the State to stop their activities or be ready to face the long arms of the law.
The State Commandant who spoke through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Uchenwa Oliver after inspecting mining sites in Umuokpara in Umuahia which is endowed with Kaolin and Owaza in Ukwa West another area another area of the State endowed with Silica Sand.
He then advised such illegal miners to ensure that they legalize their mining activities by obtaining their Licenses and other relevant documents from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.
He further advised them to adopt International best practices while conducting their businesses to avoid environmental degradation in their host communities.
The State Commandant then warned that any defaulter to this lawful order will be arrested and prosecuted by the Corps as the Federal government has empowered the agency to effect arrest and prosecution of offenders.
