As motorists and commuters continue to groan under the hardship of fuel scarcity in Benin city, the Department of Petroleum Resources,(DPR) on Friday read the riots act, warning that it will not hesitate to shut down any major marketers who sells the products above pump price
The agency also warned that it will auction to the general public products from any marketer who is found wanting
The agency added that with the gradual supply of the products to filling stations,marketers have no right whatsoever to increase or sell above the approved price.
Speaking while monitoring some of the filling stations in Benin city and its environ on Friday, the Operations controller, DPR, Maynard Oriaifo observed that the long queue of motorists waiting to buy the product will soon be a thing of the past.
While lamenting the shortage of the product in Edo state, he said they will continue to monitor products coming to the state to ensure it is not diverted by marketers who does not mean well for suffering Nigerians
Oriaifo who was at NNPC Mega station on Sapele road and NNPC retail out at Agbor park in Benin city said “We have put effective monitoring teams in place that will go out on a daily basis to monitor the level of compliance of marketers with the approved federal government pump price .
“The Department of Petroleum Resources will go after any station selling fuel above pump price and will dispense the products to customers for free while the station will be sealed”
