Scarcity Of Funds Knock U-23 Out Of Toulon Tourney
Under-23 team will not feature in the Toulon tournament due to lack of funds.
The team, which wanted to use the tournament to prepare for the Rio Olympics football event, has now opted to take part in another invitational tournament in Korea next month.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), we learnt, could not raise the 80,000 Euros needed for the team (U-23) to take part in the tournament.
However, Honduras, another team that also qualified for the Rio Olympics football event, is billed to be part of the invitational tournament in Korea.
“We hope to now feature at an invitational tournament in Korea at the end of next month. Honduras and hosts Korea will feature in the competition,” Siasia told AfricanFootball.com
Nigeria, winners of the Atlanta Olympics football gold, is drawn in Group B of the Rio Olympics alongside Sweden, Japan and Colombia. The Olympics football event will be played between August 4 and 20.
