Babatope To PDP Aggrieved Members, Don’t Float New Party

The Former Minister of Transport and Aviation and member of Board of Trustee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ebenezer Babatope have warned all aggrieved members of the party against floating a new party.

Babatope fielding questions on a radio personality interview programme on Rave FM Radio Station tagged: “Frank Talk” monitored in Osogbo at the weekend, said that it is not easy to form a new political party saying that if we does, we would run into organisational problem which he stressed may be too dangerous for the party.

Babatope against the backdrop of the leadership crisis rocking the party and how the former Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Alimodu Sheriff emerged as interim National Chairman of PDP explained that it will be a difficult exercise to market such new party and get the full support of Nigerians.

According to him, “we have to go on with what we have for now if at all we want to make any meaningful impact in future elections. It is not good to form a new party at all and if we form a new party, we will run into organisational problem that we have not envisaged and if we are not careful that problem will consume us. I don’t subscribed or support anybody forming a new party now.

“What is going on in PDP is the struggle to make it stronger and put the party in shape for future elections because we want to come back to power in 2019 with the support of Nigerians and we are going to make sure that we block all loopholes and prepare ourselves ready for what is going to happen.

“My appealed to all is that we have to go on with what we have.”

Similarly, Babatope declared that southwest geopolitical zone of the country is interested in the chairmanship position of the party said that the zone has begun to solicit the support of other regions to get the slot for the region.

While stressing that personally he has no interest in becoming the National Chairman of the party because of certain interest known to him, Babatope lamented that the region has never become the Chairman of the party since 1998 when the party was established.
