PDP, curse to Nigeria, APC, conglomeration of incompatibles – Adebanjo
Prominent Yoruba leader and chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Ayo Adebanjo, on Tuesday described the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a curse.
He maintained that the party has brought untold woes to Nigerians since the return of democracy in 1999.
He also said the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) is not the solution to Nigeria’s problems as those who form the bulk of the party have demonstrated through their actions, that they are not real democrats.
Citing instances of PDP’s misrule, he cited what he termed eight years of misrule of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he said, had no respect for rule of law and failed to deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians despite the enormous resources at his disposal.
“PDP is a curse to Nigeria. PDP as a party; let us not mention President Jonathan because he is just a victim of the process. What does PDP stand for? “When Obasanjo came into power in 1999, what did they promise to do for the country? And all these crises going on in the PDP, is it based on ideology or on their manifesto?”
“PDP is the beginning and the end of corruption in Nigeria. All those who know today that are on the periphery of corruption in Nigeria, are they not from PDP? Anybody nearing PDP as a politician, should be discarded”.
“Is Jonathan quarrelling with Amaechi because of certain things he promised the people of Rivers State that he is not doing?
“Or is the NWC or NEC of the party fighting any of the governors because they refused to perform according to their manifesto? What are we talking about?
“In a better clime, in a better democratic system, no citizens will ever move close to any party beginning with ‘P’ not to talk of PDP. I mean it, nobody should be talking about PDP again”.
On the APC, he said the recent imposition by the National Leader of ACN, Bola Tinubu, who he alleged, imposed his daughter as the head of market women in Lagos has clearly demonstrated to Nigerians the kind of government to expect when the opposition takes over from the PDP in 2015.
“Some people think APC is the solution to the misrule of PDP so but I don’t think so. And I like to be disappointed positively.
“This is because I see the APC as a conglomeration of incompatibles. That coalition, one single person they are selling there is Buhari, which I agree because no corrupt practices have been found against him.
“But then, you ask yourself ‘is Buhari a democrat? “he asked.
“And the latest one is the fact that ACN’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu’s mother as the head of market people passed away recently and Tinubu has replaced her with his daughter. Where is that done?
“The headship of the market women is not hereditary. It is the headship of the market people who must come together and anoint their new leader”, he said.
The only alternative is the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) where Nigerians will sit down and discuss the basis for their collective existence.
