Osun APC rejects Offa re-run election result
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has expressed dismay at the official results of the Offa re-run election conducted last Saturday by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWAIEC), describing it as total disappointment.
KWAIEC has awarded victory of the re-run election to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But in a statement issued and signed by the APC’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, action of the Kwara State electoral body was ominous of the kind of criminal complicity in electoral brigandage which the PDP plans to deploy throughout the country to stay in power against the will of the people.
The party chieftain is worried that such daylight robbery is still possible in spite of all the assurances that the electoral body would act with fairness and credibility in the coming elections.
“But from what has happened in Offa, Kwara State, it would appear that the electoral body is least prepared to resist the PDP chicanery and blatant disregard of the democratic process to perpetuate itself in power.
According to the statement, “If KWAIEC allows itself at this stage to become compromised, then the series of future elections in some states would be as good as given to the PDP at the local and state levels where they are in control. At least, that is the message from Offa by the PDP in collaboration with KWAIEC.
“We should warn at this stage that this kind of brigandage would be a diabolical receipt for anarchy, the type that could have the consequences of which the world has been predicting for Nigeria,” the APC chieftain said.
The statement, therefore, called on all the people of goodwill and those who have been optimistic about Nigeria’s future, to prevail on the PDP and KWAIEC not to set Kwara State ablaze with this kind of senseless electoral fraud.
