Yar’Adua’s supporters join new PDP

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has declared its support for the new PDP; members were drawn from loyalists of the Late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.

Newsherald learnt that the new PDP members were former council chairmen, past Commissioners, former National Assembly members from the state and renown politicians.

The new party emerged barely 48 hours after PDP in the state under the chairmanship of Rabi’u Gambo Bakori held ward congress to reconcile with party members and strengthen the unity of the party.

It was gathered that since the commencement of PDP crisis at the national level, officials and elders of the party in Katsina have made effort to stop emergence of parallel party, but their effort was in vain.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday shortly after its first meeting, chairman of the new PDP in the state, Bala Saulawa, declared their support for the Abubakar Kawu Baraje faction of the party.

Saulawa, who is the national chairman of Association of Former Council Chairmen in Nigeria, said the association is supporting the new PDP at national level.

He said the new PDP has noted the purported failure of Bamanga Tukur to unite the party and carry all members and disassociated themselves from his leadership.

According to him, the new PDP has noted with concern the failure of Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema, to address poverty and poor implementation of SURE -P programme in the state.

Saulawa explained that officials of new PDP would hold a rally and open a new office in the state.
