W’Cup ticket is our target –Ameobi
Super Eagles forward, Shola Ameobi, believes the team is under intense pressure to deliver the 2014 World Cup ticket.
He, however, assured that the pressure is what will bring out the best in the players and propel the team to final in Brazil.
The Newcastle United forward insisted that anything less than the World Cup ticket, for him and his mates would be a huge disappointment, which nobody want to contemplate.
“There’s always pressure in sports and that’s what makes it great, there’s pressure in various forms. But what is important is for you to use that pressure in the right way; it can drive the team, it can drive the person and that is exactly what we will do. I believe playing under pressure brings out the best out of people. It is better we play under pressure.
“From my experience, when you play under pressure that is when you can find out the most about yourself, and that brings out the best in you. Hopefully that will be our motivation on Sunday and next month. In these two games there is big pressure. On one hand, we want it and the other country want it as well. That makes it very competitive. But what we are saying is that we have the quality and all that it takes to get the ticket. Anything short of that will be a big disappointment,” he stressed.
He refused suggestion that the Ethiopians are the hungrier of the teams since they have not been to the World Cup before. He noted that majority of current Super Eagles players were yet to make appearance at the World Cup and even hungrier because of the quality they have as African champions.
