Okagbare Pulls Out Of All Africa Games

Team Nigeria hopes of medal haul in the 11th All Africa Games starting in Congo Brazzaville today suffered a major setback with African queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare, pulling out of the Games.

The athlete, who placed eight in the finals of the Women’s 100m event at the just concluded IAAF World Championships in Beijing, only asked to be excused by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) from the Games, without giving any reason.

Team Nigeria is guaranteed at least three gold medals from Okagbare if she had not withdrawn from the Games. She is expected to win gold in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m.

The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) is upset with this development.

Okagbare, we learnt took part in the IAAF Golden League in Zurich on Thursday. She placed second in the race.
