N40m Worth of Fake, Unregistered Drugs Seized By NAFDAC In Osun.

…Shut 200 Pharmaceutical Shops.

No fewer than 200 pharmaceutical shops were sealed off in some major towns and cities in Osun State by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The agency also confisticated fake and unregistered drugs worth over N40million from the affected shops.

The shops were sealed off in Osogbo, state capital, Ilesa, Ila-Orangun, Ile-Ife, Ede, Ikirun, Ejigbo and Ikire.

Some of the pharmacies sealed by NAFDAC in Osogbo include Akol Pharmaceutical Limited near LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and Raphabalm Pharmacy located at Alekuwodo while Felfam Healthcare and Supermarket at Fegbewesa was given strong warning.

NAFDAC also sealed Topawo feeds Services at Alekuwodo and Atlab Farm Products located at Okinni for selling unregistered animal feeds.

The Managing Director of Atlab Farm Products was arrested and transferred to Lagos for further interrogations.

NAFDAC officials also raided the popular Orisunbare market where some shops were sealed for selling unwholesome products. Unregistered and expired food products including wines and cosmetics were seized by NAFDAC officials at Orisunbare market in Osogbo.

At Ilesa, Akewusola Chemist and Supermarket at E126 Oke-Isa Street, was also sealed by NAFDAC officials and drugs and other regulated products worth over five millions were confiscated there.

The NAFDAC officials also sealed a pure water factory, Royal Step Nigeria Limited for refusing to renew its registration licence since 2007.

The company belong to the Chairman of the Association Table Water Producers in Osun state, Prince Ademola Adeyeye who was also a former Chairman of Obokun Local Government area.

The Deputy Director in the NAFDAC Directorate of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr Francis Onaniwun, said the essence of the raid was to sanitise the market and ensure that only wholesome products that were approved by NAFDAC and not expired are sold to consumers.
