NPA Inaugurates Public Procure Committee

Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has called for synergy among the departments of the authority in projects implementation so that the authority could have value for its expenditure.

Abdullahi gave the charge in Lagos on Tuesday while inaugurating a five-member procurement planning committee of the NPA in accordance with Part 4, Section 21 of the Public Procurement Act in Lagos.

The Managing Director noted that the authority was aware of the provisions of the procurement act and as a law abiding organisation, it would not flout  any of its provisions.

He enjoined the committee to schedule meetings with various divisions and departments with a view to ensure that projects were in tune with the budget of the authority.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary of the committee and General Manager, Procurement, Engr. A. Jatto, said the inauguration has become necessary in order to enable the committee function in accordance with the procurement act.

He said the committee would invite all General Managers to appear before it and defend their budgets, while the approved budget of the authority would be its guide.

The Managing Director is the chairman of the committee, while other members are the General Managers, Finance, Legal/Board Matters, Procurement and Corporate and Strategic Planning.

Highlight of the occasion was the formal inauguration of the committee by the Managing Director.
